Pump Horsepower

Written by Jerry Ratzlaff on . Posted in Pump

This is a rapid method to estimate pump horsepower by the following formula:

Pump Horsepower formula

\(\large{ HP = \frac{GPM \;\Delta P}{1715 \;\eta} }\)

Where:

\(\large{ HP }\) = pump horsepower

\(\large{ GPM }\) = flow rate of liquid being pumped, GPM

\(\large{ \Delta P }\) added pressure (discharge minus suction), psig

\(\large{ eta }\) = pump efficiency

notes

The expression can be rearranged to obtain \(\Delta P\) in terms of other variables.
