In both math and physics a coefficient is a constant number which may or may not be dimensionless.

A number multiplied by a variable.

  • Equation - \(\;7x-23=19\; \)
  • The coefficient is \( \;7\; \)

In physics a coefficient is a constant number for a specific property, at a specific moment, with specific changing variables such a density, pressure, temperature, and etc.
