# Tension

Written by Jerry Ratzlaff on . Posted in Classical Mechanics

Tension, abbreviated as T, is the force (pulling or stretching) acting on a material.

## Formulas that use Tension

 $$\large{ T = W + m \; a }$$ $$\large{ T = m \; g + m \; a }$$

### Where:

$$\large{ T }$$ = tension

$$\large{ a }$$ = acceleration

$$\large{ g }$$ = gravitational acceleration

$$\large{ m }$$ = mass

$$\large{ W }$$ = weight
