Mean depth is the average water depth in a stream channel or conduit computed by dividing the cross section area by the surface width.

## FORMULA

$$h_m = \frac { A } { T }$$

Where:

$$h_m$$ = mean depth

$$A$$ = area of cross section flow

$$T$$ = top water surface width

Solve for:

$$A = h_m \; T$$

$$T = \frac {A} { h_m }$$
