Water Hammer Maximum Surge Pressure Head Formula

\(\large{  H_{sp}  =  \frac { \alpha \; \Delta v   }   { g  }   }\)                  

Where:

\(\large{ H_{sp} }\) = maximum surge pressure head in length of fluid

\(\large{ \Delta v }\) = change in fluid velocity

\(\large{ g }\) = gravitational acceleration

\(\large{ \alpha }\)  (Greek symbol alpha) = pressure wave velocity

 Solve for:

\(\large{  \Delta v  =  \frac { H_{sp} \; g   }   { \alpha  }   }\)

\(\large{  g  =  \frac { \alpha \; \Delta v   }   { H_{sp}  }   }\)
