Void Ratio

Void ratio, abbreviated as e, also called degree of saturation, of a materials porosity is the ratio between void volume and solid material volume.

Void Ratio formula

\(\large{ e = \frac {V_v} {V_s } }\)

Where:

\(\large{ e }\) = void ratio

\(\large{ V_s }\) = volume of solids

\(\large{ V_v} \) = volume of voids

Solve for:

\(\large{ V_s = \frac { V_v} { e}   }\)

\(\large{ V_v = e \;  V_s }\)
